Military Surgery Conference Abstract Submissions

Abstract submission deadline is Friday 9 March 2012

Invitation to submit:

Authors are invited to submit abstracts for this year’s Military Surgery Conference scheduled to take place on Wednesday 9 May. The 2012 meeting will be co-located with the annual meeting of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland at Liverpool's Arena and Convention Centre on Monarchs Quay. Both trainees and consultants are encouraged to submit work.

Abstract requirements:

Presenting authors of abstracts must be registered participants. The format of all abstracts has been standardised.  Each abstract must include the following four sections: INTRODUCTION, METHODS, RESULTS and DISCUSSION with a maximum word limit of 300 [excluding the title]. You will need to give details of the presenting author, all contributing authors as well as full institution details for each.

Abstracts must be original and must not be or have been published or presented at any other meeting prior to the Military Surgery Conference. Abstracts stating “data will be discussed in the presentation” will NOT be accepted. The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission to the Conference Secretariat.

Submission of an abstract acknowledges your acceptance for the abstract to be published in the official meeting publications.
There will be both oral presentations and posters for display at the conference. The Scientific Committee will determine whether the abstract will be accepted as an oral presentation or a poster presentation, with consideration given to the author’s preference.

Oral presentations:

Oral presentations will be kept strictly to 7 minutes with 3 minutes for questions in order to facilitate debate. The conference venue is capable of supporting the most recent versions of PowerPoint. The lecture theatre has a standard lectern with built in controls, microphones and screen. In addition there is a remote hand control and microphone for those who wish to be ambulatory during their presentation.

Poster presentations:

Posters should be displayed as a portrait format with the very specific dimensions of A0 which is: 841mm in width and 1189mm in height [landscape formats will not be displayed]. Please allocate the top of the poster for the title and authors as stated on the submitted abstract. The text, illustrations, etc should be bold enough to be read from a distance of two meters.

Awards & prizes:

The Richard Wiseman medal has been struck in bronze and will be awarded to the best podium presentation after deliberation of the Scientific Committee at the Military Surgery Conference. An experts’ round of the posters will be made to judge the best poster. The winner will receive a cash prize sponsored the Military Surgical Society
